Philip and Grace Chung have been serving as missionaries in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for the past 6 years. It has been a blessed journey filled with both joys and struggles. Four years ago, Grace was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and miraculously healed by God of her cancer without any invasive medical treatments, spending most of the time resting and recovering in Korea.
Toward the end of 2015, Grace was healthy enough to return to Cambodia to continue the work at Jubilee for Cambodia. After some time in ministry in the city of Kampot, Grace started having high fevers and abdominal pain. Last week she was hospitalized and doctors believed she had typhoid fever. She received antibiotics and rested for some time. After a few days in the hospital she was able to go home but continued to have abdominal pain. Then she could not sleep at all and was having difficulty breathing. She returned to the hospital and Xrays showed pneumonia. Her condition did not improve and doctors said she had developed fluids in her lungs. At one point the doctors told Philip that there was nothing more they could do. We received a call from him urgently telling us to fly to Cambodia as soon as possible. We were shaken by the news and continued to ask God for healing and wisdom. Eventually, Grace was taken by ambulance to a hospital in the city of Phnom Penh, where she received higher level of care. Over the past week, they were able to perform a thoracentesis to drain the fluid from her lungs 3 times. She felt relief after each procedure but continues to be in pain and is lacking much sleep. She is currently at Calmet Hospital ICU and we are awaiting the test results of the fluids. We are hoping she can move out of ICU in the next few days.
We humbly ask for your prayers and support during this difficult time. We continue to place our hope in Christ Jesus and depend on Him each day for strength and comfort.
Please be in prayer for:
- Grace’s complete healing – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wholeness, put on the full armor of God during this battle
- Philip – strength as he supports Grace, Physical rest in between hospital visits
- Hospital staff – for wisdom, compassionate care, resources to provide treatments for Grace
- Financial provision for hospital stay, treatments, medications etc.
